The forecast for tomorrow in Columbia is an epic snowstorm! Okay, we’re really only supposed to get 3-6 inches of snow + a little ice, but, for Missouri, that’s pretty good.
Especially when we haven’t seen much snow in the last two years.
I’ve spent today tying up loose ends, running errands, making meal plans, stockpiling food, rescheduling appointments and coming up with a plan to entertain my kindergartner for the day tomorrow because snowdaycalculator.com says we have a 99% chance of a snow day.
As this is my son’s very FIRST official snow day, I’m SO very excited!
- Sled: check!
- Condensed milk for snow ice cream: check!
- Meal plan + grocery shopping: check!
- Favorite cozy jammies laundered: check!
I totally bought into the hype and even picked up the standard milk & bread from the grocery store.
Except we never go through much milk & bread…and my rest-of-the-week meal plan doesn’t call for bread…and we had half a gallon of milk in the fridge already.
I’m crazy like that.
And, as the sweet cashier at HyVee reminded me, if my neighbors are having a milk or bread emergency tomorrow, I’m the go-to girl.
(Too bad none of them will know that beforehand.)
SO, back to the reason for this post…I know that some of you may be snow-bound and entertaining kiddos as well, and I thought I would share what I’ve come up with. A couple years back, the Manic Mommies (fantastic podcast, by the way) posted a snow day agenda on their blog and said it worked really well to keep their kids from playing video games all day.
Here’s my plan for my six-year old for tomorrow:
I’m planning to pull this easel out into the living room early tomorrow morning, once school is officially called.
My son’s b-day is coming up next week , so some of this stuff is fun disguised as checking off some of his birthday to-do list items (hand print art, birthday video, cleaning house). But, my kiddo won’t really know the difference because his mommy is always doing crazy things like this. Oh, and yes, I will share some of my birthday traditions with y’all here pretty soon. For now, just pretend you know what I’m talking about.
In addition to being a snow day for my son, I’m also taking a snow day myself. Tomorrow’s photo sessions have been rescheduled (mostly because my car is terrible in the snow, oh, and I’ll have a 6-yr-old in tow—thank you for understanding, sweet clients!), and I’ve shifted the photo processing that needs to be done to today, tonight and Friday.
(No, I have not thought of a plan if Friday is a snow day too…we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it…or he’ll play video games all day. Whatever.)
I’ll probably answer business email tomorrow and try to sneak in a few minutes of downloading, sneak peeking or blogging here and there, but I’m going to try to spend most of the day with my kiddo.
And, I’m excited to maybe cross off some things from my personal to-do list too! Here’s what my over-ambitious to-do list looks like for tomorrow:
(We can all have a good laugh over this ambitious list…before you start thinking this is all doing to get done, I can promise you it won’t. A girl can dream.)
I’ll elaborate on what some of those things are in future blog posts—I truly can’t wait to share some of our birthday traditions!
Hoping that you have a safe and happy snow day tomorrow too!
Eat some snow ice cream for me, but stay away from the yellow snow!
